Restaurant Week is an event that is held amongst some of New York City’s finest restaurants. Over 250 participating restaurants serve three-course meals at a fixed rate. Monday through Friday anyone can enjoy lunch for only $27.04 or dinner for just $35.00, with some restaurants offering these fixed-rate prices on Sundays.
Restaurant Week is held twice every year, once in the winter (January/ February) and again in the summer (June/July). It began in New York Cit and has since spread to many cities across the country. This year’s Winter Restaurant Week began January 24th and was extended to February 27th. Choosing one restaurant out of more then 250 may prove to be difficult, but narrowing down your options by type of cuisine and then neighborhood at http://www.nycgo.com/restaurantweek/ makes the selection process easier.
Amongst the many spectacular restaurants to choose from, I decided to book a reservation at Rosa Mexicano, an “upscale” modern Mexican cuisine restaurant down in Union Square. Before I had a chance to taste the food, I knew Rosa Mexicano would be a good choice. Being the social network butterfly that I am, as soon as I booked my reservations on Opentable.com, I updated my Facebook status letting my friends know I had reserved a dinner for two at Rosa Mexicano. My status was barely updated when several friends left comments raving about the restaurant. One friend insisted I try the restaurant’s signature frozen pomegranate margarita and the guacamole. Before the comments I had thought I was excited about dining at Rosa Mexicano, but after reading my friends comments I was beyond excited.
On my way to the restaurant, I held a conversation with my stomach. I could hear the thing growling nonstop, despite my thick winter coat. At that point I was hoping that my decision to temporarily starve myself wouldn’t end up being a lapse of poor judgment. And I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed. The food was amazing, not that you can really complain about getting a three-course meal for the price of what an entrée would normally cost. Normally I would not have been able to enjoy food at restaurant like Rosa Mexicano, living on a full-time student’s budget. The restaurant’s award-winning Guacamole en Molcajete (prepared table side) was exactly what my friend said it would be — the best. Between the restaurants exquisite food, amazing ambiance and amazing staff service, I was on cloud nine.
